The winemaking tradition of the Brunel family goes back to the 17th century. Gaston Brunel, a famous négociant, acquired the Château de la Gardine in Châteauneuf du Pape in 1945. The estate is now run by his two sons, Maxime and Patrick with the help of their wives Maryse and Eve and some of their children and grandchildren, Marie-Odile, Philippe, Guillaume and Thibaut. The estate spreads over 52 ha of vineyards (48 ha of red and 4 ha of white) and 20 ha of forests, all gathered around the property. The domaine is famous for the quality of their wines and for the unique Gardine bottle. Today around 70% of the production is exported in about 30 countries.
The colour is very dense, like deep purple ink. The wine expresses some roasted notes on the nose. On the palate, cassis and blackberry jam dominate. The finish is very long with some very well integrated tannins.
You can enjoy this wine now, decanting it 3 to 4 hours before serving to give the exuberant aromas the opportunity to fully develop and to tame the young tannins the tannins. Stored in good conditions, this wine can easily wait patiently 20 to 30 years for the most memorable family dinners and special occasions.
Serves at: 18°C
