Joseph Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Folatières 2017 is a pale, green-tinged yellow colour. Captivating scents of white peach, citrus fruits, spices and noble Puligny herbs, lifted by a suggestion of anise. A pure, nicely balanced midweight with a very primary estery banana note and a saline nuance. Currently showing more intensity than dimension, this promising premier cru finishes slightly edgy but long.
The central part of the Côte de Beaune comprises an area predestined to produce great white wines, and Puligny-Montrachet is certainly one of its most glorious examples. Among its Premier Crus, the vineyard of Les Folatières is one of its most famous, occupying a central position at mid-slope. The name Folatières may come from feu follet in French, (St Elmos fire). According to popular imagination, these fires could be seen on a warm summer night in the forests nearby or coming up from the valley below.
This is an amazing Burgundian white wine, made from 100% chardonnay, that is surely once of the finest French white wines in the market.
