Alfred the Great Gin (41.3%vol) is a London dry gin with a strong initial thump of piney juniper, followed by enlightening coriander and lively citrus end notes.

Wessex Distillery is a small family run distillery that opened in 2017. It has two stills; a traditional copper pot still and the vacuum still that enables delicate botanicals to be distilled at lower temperatures. Were busy exploring different flavours, using these stills in combination.

However, our first gin is a traditional London dry gin, inspired by Wessexs most famous King, Alfred the Great, who ruled from 871 to 899 AD. Alfred battled the Vikings throughout his entire reign and this is reflected in the big initial thump of piney juniper. The flavours that follow, pay homage to Alfreds other attributes: the enlightening peppery coriander represents his appreciation of the importance of learning and scholarship and the citrusy end notes for his close association with Rome.

Alfred the Great gin is an excellent gin & tonic gin best with a tonic that is light on other flavours e.g. Schweppes, lots of ice and a twist of orange zest.
