Weingut Abraham's 2017 Upupa Orange is a wonderful expression of Gewürztraminer that any fan of aromatic varieties must try. Their version is vinified dry after having been macerated on its skin for 4 weeks, giving the wine a light orange colour. The result is an appealingly complex wine that embraces the flavours of this perfumed variety while remaining taut and salty. Sometimes Gewürztraminer can be a bit too rich or heady, but theirs is mineral, chiselled and salty. A small amount of Pinot Blanc adds even more lift and grace, while its gentle tannic edge enables it to pair with a number of different foods and occasions, even lighter meat dishes. Just fab.'
