About The Wine
Issan is among the oldest properties in Bordeaux. One of its many claims to fame is that its wine was served at the marriage of Eleanor of Aquitaine to Henri Plantagenet (later Henry II of England). The name of the property is derived from a archaic spelling of its owners in the 17th to 19th centuries: the dEssenault family. M dEssenault was a member of parliament and he renovated the vineyards and built the château we see today. Issan was bought by the Cruse family in 1945 in a somewhat dilapidated state. The Cruse family replanted and updated facilities and thoroughly modernised Issan. A 50% stake in Issan was sold to M Lorenzetti - owner of Lilian Ladouys and Pedesclaux - in 2012. Please be advised that deliveries outside mainland UK may incur additional charges.
