Chateau Barde Haut is a 17-hectare vineyard located on the eastern edge of Saint-Emilion. The winery is shaped like an amphitheater and faces south overlooking the Dordogne Valley. The 2014 vintage is dominated by Merlot grapes, complemented by Cabernet Franc.

The wine shows complete expression of its terroir, composed of notes of blackcurrant and dark cherry. It has a medium body, fine tannins with a beautiful tension and the finish is long with sweet spices. One of the best values of Bordeaux.

AWARDS AND REVIEWS

91 points Wine Advocate

The 2014 Barde-Haut, a blend of 87.3% Merlot and 12.7% Cabernet Franc, has a relatively opulent bouquet compared to its peers with ripe red cherries, kirsch, hints of crème de cassis, and it becomes spicier as it opens in the glass. The palate is smooth on the entry with succulent ripe red and black fruit. This feels harmonious and silky smooth, just a touch of pain grillé on the entry, fine structure, tightening up on the mid-palate with a gentle, insistent grip on the lightly spiced finish where the Cabernet Franc imparts a subtle bell pepper note. This is excellent.by Neal Martin

This is very dense and intense with lots of extracted fruit that gives a licorice and mineral character. Looking forward to seeing how it evolves in barrel.

Solid, with dark currant, fig and blackberry compote flavors that meld with dark tobacco and roasted alder notes. Maintains a fleshy edge through the finish without sacrificing energy. Best from 2018 through 2028. by James Molesworth
