Fine and elegant as a Burgundian Pinot Noir with a bit of more ripeness and warmth. On the limestone soils, the wine develops a fine bouquet of fresh fruits and delicate, floral notes, supported by a mineral freshness and fine tannins. An extraordinary taste experience that fully explains to what extent nature and the environment can give shape to a wine.

Located 350 meters above sea level, facing north-west, this special location with 6.5 ha of forest and 3.5 ha of vines offers elegant and fresh wines with perfect ripeness and flavour intensity.

AWARDS AND REVIEWS

(93-95) points by Joe Czerwinski for Robert Parker

Less garrigue-laden than some of the other Gigondas bottlings at this domaine, the full-bodied 2016 Gigondas Clos Derriere Vieille is rich, ripe and fruit-driven, offering fresh berries and cherries that pick up lovely hints of roses and tea leaves on the long, silky finish.

93-95 points Antonio Galloni

Lurid ruby. Sexy, highly perfumed aromas of Chambord, potpourri, garrigue and Asian spices carry an intense mineral overtone. Impressively concentrated, seamless and penetrating on the palate, offering densely packed raspberry liqueur, cherry pastry and floral pastille flavors that put on weight with air while maintaining vivacity. The floral quality repeats emphatically on the gently tannic finish, which clings with serious tenacity and appealing sweetness.

93-94 James Suckling

Trademark Santa Duc freshness and purity with a swerve into darker-fruit territory. Plums and blackberries, dark, brambly herbs and woody spices. The palate is fresh, lithe and punchy. Really impressive. Drink or hold
92-94 Jeb Dunnuck

The 2016 Gigondas Clos Derrière Vieille offer more berry fruits, yet also has the exotic, passion fruit like character found in the Aux Lieux Dits. Violets, bay leaf, and spring flower notes all emerge from the glass and its medium to full-bodied, elegant and pure, with impressive tannin quality.
