Born in 1953, Carlos Moro was raised on his family's vineyards in Ribera del Duero. He embarked upon a career in the Spanish wine industry, before founding his own company in 1988. Today he produces wines from several estates and single-vineyard sites dotted throughout Castilla y Leon. The Finca las Marcas is a south-west facing vineyard on sandy soils at 650m above sea level, north of the Duero River, planted in 2000.
Classically clean and fresh Verdejo; elegant structure with flavours of passionfruit and mango, anise and white blossom. Fermentation and 6 months ageing in barrel adds subtle texture and hits of clove, toffee and cedar. The finish is wonderfully refreshing, with delicate balsamic notes and splendid length.
Ideal with a full-flavoured salad; white fish will also pair very well indeed.
Verdejo makes a very interesting alternative to aromatic grapes like Sauvignon blanc, with savoury note reminiscent of fine Sancerre.
