"Wow!" - That is a statement that we hear a lot with the wines of Abadia Retuerta. This beautiful winery is the result of a Swiss investment (Novartus) in Spanish land, of which the vineyards and the cellars are laid out and furnished with French expertise. Not just Spanish land, but ideally located slopes overlooking the most famous winery in Spain: Vegas Sicilia.

The Abadia Pago Negrelada is pure Tempranillo from an elevated vineyard. The wine is the showpiece of the winemaker. It has a beautiful nose with blackberries, cassis and violets. The taste is smooth and rounded and very refined. This is extremely balanced and sleek, supported by beautifully integrated oak. There are abundant ripe dark cherries and creme de cassis that result in a sensual aftertaste. Drinking window 2016-2025.

The "Pago" status is what the Grand Cru among Spanish wines means and is the highest status that a wine company in Spain can achieve. A wine may be a Pago-we if the wines can be guaranteed that the grapes come from a geographical zone whose specific soil characteristics are recognizable. In other words; in certain zones there is a special microclimate that, in combination with the composition of the soil, produces a grape which, despite being a well-known grape variety, cannot be compared in taste with that of its peers. There are only a handful of wines in Spain that have this ultimate status.
