Very lively and energetic with an intensity and beauty that is almost unbelievable! That is how the La Literna Malbec Valle de Pedernal # 13 is described. This micro-terroir wine comes from a beautiful vineyard with a cool climate at high altitude. The wine expresses itself in freshness, crispy fruit and an intense rose and violet scent. Strawberry, cherry, dark, juicy blackberry and blueberry fruit are nicely balanced with the stylish presence of pencil sharpening and a fine scent of crushed limestone minerality. A touch of marzipan contributes to this very charismatic wine. The wine is concentrated, nicely structured, lush and silky in texture due to the macadamia-like creaminess. The ultimate expression of a world class terroir: Valle de Pedernal. The wine is now perfect to drink but it is obvious that after several years of storage a multitude of underlying layers will be revealed. Aging potential: 15 years.

97 points, James Suckling: A cooler-fruited nose or freshly picked blueberries, dark chocolate, graphite, lead pencil and hints of clay. On the palate, this shows remarkable freshness with succulent acidity and ultra-fine tannins. An extremely mineral and long finish. Salty undertones, too. "

This Malbec is part of the unique La Literna series from Bemberg Estate. La Literna means the lantern, and this name is actually telling. It guarantees a very accurate search - with a lantern - for the very best and most extraordinary vineyards. This search takes you on an imaginary journey through the Andes (from north to south) that winemaker Daniel Pi and the Bemberg family have carried out with great passion. The La Literna wines all represent the great diversity that can be seen in Argentina. Also watch the video from winemaker Daniel Pi specifically about this micro-terroir Malbec Valle de Pedernal # 13.

The wine comes from the micro-terroir 'Finca La Yesca' located at 1,400m above sea level on the southern tip of the province of San Juan, in the Pedernal valley. The exceptional micro-terroir lies on the alluvial range of the Las Cortaderas river. The sand clay soils there contain around 3% clay, 78% sand and 19% sludge and consist of different layers containing fragments of broken rock (clast). The first layer - with 25% castic rock - goes to a depth of 50 cm below the surface. A second layer varies from a depth of 50 cm to 150 cm, and consists of 50% clastic rock, with angular edges, of a limestone type.

The bunches from the best rows of the plot are harvested by hand in 450 kg trays. Once in the basement, bunches are further selected and stalked. The fermentation process starts in 60 hl French oak barrels with 15% of the grapes, still in the whole bunches, to better express the fruity characteristics of the region. Traditional maceration is then carried out by means of daily délestage and pumps for 4 weeks, after which pneumatic pressing is performed. The wine is then stored and malolactic conversion takes place and the wine matures for another 18 months in new French oak barrels. Finally, bottling is carried out without stabilizing or filtering to maintain the exceptional character of the wine.

Bemberg Estate Wines is located in the Argentinian wine region of Mendoza , the region with the largest area of wine-growing land in Argentina. The winery owns around 3,200 hectares of vineyards and has been producing great wines for years and is always passionate about further development. That is how the Bemberg family came up with the idea of selecting the very best vineyards together with Daniel Pi, who was named Best Argentinian Winemaker, and turned them into phenomenal wines. These single vineyards wines represent beautiful micro-terroirs in different regions of Argentina. The numbers produced were not large, so the family decided to keep them for their own use. However, when the wines turned out to be of very good quality, it was nevertheless decided to not only keep these exclusive wines for themselves, but also to put them on the market.
