The Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is always a mix of 80-85% Grenache and a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Clairette and other permitted varieties. The grapes were harvested around October 10. The Grenache is raised in foudre and the Syrah and Mourvedre 1/3 in new barrels and 2/3 in barrels from 1-3 years old. At Janasse, the wine must predominate and not the wood. The vineyards are more than 80 years old and again this Janasse Vieilles Vignes is an absolute winner with beautiful spectacular black fruit, herbs, toast, licorice and roasted meat-in the nose. It is a full-bodied wine. Extremely concentrated with beautiful complex layers in the mouth with a lot of texture but remains refreshing and pure at all times. The 2013 has received 96 Parker Points, so Janasse is one of the few wineries that can produce consistent quality year in and year out, and that goes for their wines across the board. The 2013 already has beautiful refined tannins and is drinkable earlier than the 2012
Domaine de la Janasse dates from 1967 when it was founded by Aimé Sabon with 15 hectares of vineyard. The total surface area is now 55 hectares and is currently being run by son Christophe and his sister Isabelle. The vineyards are on a difficult surface of pebble, sand and large boulders. The vines are 40 to 80 years old. The yield is usually less than 30 hl / ha due to strict pruning and a rigorous vendange distance.
The big breakthrough of Janasse came in 2007, when their Châteauneuf du Pape "Veilles Vignes" scored 100 points Parker !! All their wines score excellent year after year. The quality of this domaine is so great that even their "regular" Cotes-du-Rhone already has a worldwide reputation! This is really a TOP domain!
