Jean Pierre Latour is a quiet man from Meursault, who is averse to standing and reputations. He makes beautiful wines (powerful white and refined red) that enjoy great international standing. Grapes have been grown at Domaine Latour-Giraud since 1680 and since 1848 this has been done in Meursault. Around 1980, the decision was made to bottle and not to deliver to traders. It is still the trend for grape growers in Burgundy to make wine themselves. This is the reason why the traders themselves purchase more and more vineyards to maintain their position. Now the family business is run by Jean-Pierre Latour, who is assisted by his sister Florence, among others. The domain has 10 hectares, of which 80% for white and 20% for blue grapes. The Chardonnay vineyards are almost all in Meursault in the municipality appellation and premier cru. The blue grapes grow mainly in premier cru vineyards in Pommard (Refène), Volnay (Clos des Chênes). The company has great international recognition, such as up to 95 points from Robert Parker for one of the white wines.
The Latour-Giraud Meursault Cuvée Charles Maxime is a very attractive Meursault in terms of price, made by a fantastic authentic house. In the glass, the Meursault Cuvée Charles Maxime is light yellow to yellowish. In the nose butter, nuts, apple and spiciness of wood. In the mouth a round attack, creamy but elegant and with finesse because of the minerals and the beautiful acids. Good integration of the wood. In summary An incredible quality for an 'ordinary' Meursault: round door but also exciting acids!
