Founded in 1856 Cousiño Macul is the only winery in Chile amongst those
established in the 19th century that continues in the hands of the original
founding family. The company remains 100% under family control and is today
governed by the sixth generation direct descendants of its founder Matías
Cousiño. The mission of Cousiño Macul is 'To produce world-class wines that are
unmistakably Chilean carrying the distinctive character of the Maipo Valley'.
"When I visited Chile to see the winemaking there, I was astonished at the way
in which the wineries were able to make French-style wines in a much more
favourable climate. With a noticable ripe melon smell and plump flavour, this
would go well with creamy chicken dishes or on its own." Tom Harrow
