Ivo Duboković is Croatias leading boutique winemaker and certainly one of the most serious ones in Croatia. His vineyards are located on the island Hvar, one of the warmest and sunniest islands in the Adriatic spreading over micro localities of Sveti Nikola and Medvid bod. Soil structure ranges from limestone pebble, white sand with a small percentage of red soil, giving an ideal nutrition source to indigenous varieties such as Mali Plavac, Drnekusa, Parac, Kuc, Bogdanusa, and Marastina. Medvid is one of cult Croatian wines. It is made from grapes that grow on Hvar, the position Medvid Bod. It matured for a year and a half in the barrique barrels and then it was filled in the bottles non-filtered. The oak doesnt overpower the fruit, however, and the wine leads with pretty floral aromas, like violet and mint. The fruit comes in as mature blackberries and plums, with the floral notes perking up alongside them.
